Scrapping With Bold Pattern Paper

Hi My Deer & Fawn Designs Friends!

Hope you've had a fantastic week!

*Don't forget today's the last day to upload your 'All About Me' challenge creations*
There are some fabulous prizes up for grabs too!
Simply click on the Inlinkz button in the side bar to get started :)

Today I wanted to share with you a really sweet and simple layout I created of my darling daughter, that uses up some of that trickier heavy patterned paper....

'Best Day Ever'

Isn't she lovely?! Such a beautiful young lady!

As usual I am scrapping from my Cocoa Vanilla Studio stash, and I love the
Life Is Beautiful collection.
Infact, I love it so much that this patterned paper is all I have left! lol!
This paper is sooooo fun and pretty but I have struggled to use it.
It's just so bold and busy that I never know where to start?
You may have some of these 'heavily' patterned papers at home too -
you know the ones, really pretty but how to use them?
Well, that's how today's layout came about. I was determined to use this pretty paper!
For my layout design I wanted to show off the gorgeous paper, so I've kept it as a real page feature.

TIP: Use busy pattern papers in large blocks and combine with very simple embellishing.

I chose to 'dress' my photo rather than the page, and kept it minimal!
A couple sweet doilies, 3 hearts and a flair button, a small ephemera title and a scatter of sequins is all this page needed to be complete.

So pretty!!! Love it!

Speaking of love, check out those super cute hearts.....

The printed wood veneers (as well as that cute flair button) are from the Life Is Beautiful collection & are just too sweet! They make embellishing your pages too easy!
That larger handmade heart is from Charms Creations & is just lovely.

& there you have it!
Hope my liked my layout and,
that I've inspired you to try using some of that busier patterned paper too!

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment,
til next time,

There's still time!!

Hi everyone

Just a quick Friday post from me today to inspire you to go in our October Challenge.  There's still time, and there's some awesome prizes up for grabs.....

So in case you've missed it, this month's challenge is to create a layout about YOU! Yep, we often forget to scrap ourselves.  We are usually behind the camera instead of in front of it.  But it is important to SCRAP YOU!  To hear your voice, to share your story.  Believe me, you'll be glad you did.
And I've been loving reading little bits and pieces about you all.

Here's a layout I created a while back......

And a close up:

The prize pack this month is:
Deer Designer Pick - Your Creative Wings prize pack

Random Draw Prize - Bright Rae of Sunlight - 5 packs of enamel dots & a 15% off voucher
Told you they were awesome right?  So what have you got to lose?? And the best part.....you will have a layout featuring YOU!

Can't wait to see your creations!

See you next week, with an exciting new reveal!

Bliss

Morning Deer and Fawners!

I have been having some fun this week playing with stencils and mists!! And I really wanted them to be the stand out on my page.

I just love the 2 stencils I used here on this LO, they are Flutterbys and Crafters workshop!! I took this photo before I scrapped on it.

Pretty cool hey?
I used a modeling paste and then about 4 different mists.
I was also inspired by Amanda's page last week, where she used no colour. This was just a great concept.... except....I struggle to use no colour, lol!! So I really wanted to try to stick to 'less' colour, and came up with this.

This paper range 'barista' by BasicGrey just lends itself to speak without much colour.
And I love to tell a story with multiple photos. I also dug around my stash to use up a few 'older' but still totally awesome embellies!
Why not give these ideas a try yourself. I think you will love the outcome!

Till next week, Em. Xx

Mixed Media Fun!

Hello Deers!!  Welcome to my last guest post for Deer and Fawn Designs for October. I thought I would share two of my 12X12 layouts using mixed media techniques. (yes, I love them and may be slightly addicted to the messiness!).  The layout above uses watercolours on a gesso background.   I then applied texture paste through a stencil to give some raised surface on the background and added some stamping.   As you will see, the green heart uses the texture paste stencilled technique and once dry is then painted with watercolour paints.  A bit of fussy cutting of some patterned paper I had in my stash for the rest of the background, a few embellishments and layout complete! And a gorgeous photo of my boys of course!

This next layout is on black cardstock – I love the way the colours pop on this gesso background also.  I used a number of gelatos to create a colourful back drop.  Once applied, I like to smudge the gelatos with a baby wipe or a wet finger – on the gesso, this really helps the colours smooth out nicely.  I used a number of embellishments on this layout, including a 6X4 Project Life card cut down to mat the photo on.  I love the gold bling on this layout and clustering of embellies in the right bottom corner.

I hope you enjoyed my time as a guest designer here on the blog. Thanks for having me!
